Expressions Film Studio, proudly operated by Manitoba educators, bridges the classroom and our vibrant film industry. This interactive workshop transforms your class into a collaborative film crew, engaging every student in bringing a scene to life. ENHANCE STUDENT ENGAGEMENT

The perfect start or cap to any media unit on film production. Our interactive workshops is a 2 hour workshop that will captivate students’ interest, making learning both enjoyable and memorable.

HANDS-ON

This workshop provides hands on experience for students in the area of both the crew and the actors. Whether you’re operating the camera, the actor, or part of the live studio audience your part of the filmmaking process!

English Language Arts (ELA)

  • Communication Skills: Enhance students’ abilities to communicate effectively through various forms, including oral, written, visual, and digital mediums. Students will practice expressing ideas, emotions, and information clearly and confidently.
  • Mediums of Communication: Explore diverse mediums of expression such as film, scriptwriting, and digital storytelling. Students learn how different mediums can convey messages and influence audiences.
  • Comprehension and Response: Develop skills in identifying story elements like theme, plot, character, and setting. Students will engage in interpreting scripts, analyzing narratives, and responding critically and creatively to texts.
  • Emotional Intelligence: Encourage students to recognize and express emotions, both in themselves and in the characters they portray. This fosters empathy, self-awareness, and a deeper understanding of human experiences.

The Arts (Dramatic Arts and Media Arts)

  • Creative Expression: Provide opportunities for students to express ideas and emotions creatively through acting, directing, and production. This enhances artistic skills and personal expression.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Foster skills in working collaboratively, as students engage in different groups to film a scene. Emphasize the importance of cooperation, respect, and shared responsibility.
  • Aesthetic Awareness: Develop an understanding of aesthetic principles such as shot composition, light and shadow, and various types of shots types .

Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)

  • Digital Literacy: Introduce students to digital tools and technologies used in film production, such as cameras, audio equipment, and editing software. This enhances technical proficiency and adaptability.
  • Media Literacy: Help students understand the influence of media in society. Students learn to analyze media messages, recognize bias, and create content responsibly.
